Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the technical capacity of members of the Malilu Sipakainga Forest Farmer Group (KTH) in candlenut cultivation through the establishment of a demonstration plot in Alu Village, Alu District, Polewali Mandar Regency. This activity was motivated by previous empowerment programs that mainly focused on downstream aspects, such as packaging, branding, and digital marketing, while strengthening the cultivation aspect as the foundation of production was still needed. The implementation method was carried out participatively through extension, training, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation involving 18 active KTH members. The candlenut demonstration plot was established on a 3 × 6 m² area using wildings adapted to field conditions. The results showed that 85% of participants experienced an improvement in knowledge and skills related to candlenut cultivation. In addition, the demonstration plot functions as a sustainable learning medium that supports collective learning processes and strengthens the group’s collective capacity. This activity indicates that the establishment of a demonstration plot is effective in strengthening the cultivation aspect and has the potential to support the productivity and sustainability of community-based candlenut enterprises.
