Allegation of research misconduct

Jurnal Ilmu Gizi dan Dietetik takes concerns about research and publication integrity seriously. This policy complements the journal’s Publication Ethics Statement and describes how allegations concerning submitted or published articles will be handled.

The editorial team will consider relevant guidance and flowcharts from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Allegations will be assessed fairly and on the basis of available evidence. An allegation alone does not establish that misconduct has occurred.

1. Scope

Concerns covered by this policy may include:

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data.

  • Misleading manipulation of images, results, or research records.

  • Plagiarism, substantial unattributed overlap, or redundant publication.

  • Simultaneous submission to more than one journal.

  • Inappropriate authorship or omission of qualifying contributors.

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest that may affect the work.

  • Misrepresentation of research ethics approval or participant consent, where applicable.

Honest errors and differences in scientific interpretation do not automatically constitute misconduct. Errors affecting a publication may nevertheless require correction or other editorial action.

2. Reporting a Concern

Concerns should be submitted to the editorial office:

Email: jurnalgizidietetik@apps.ipb.ac.id
Suggested subject: Research Integrity Concern – [Article Title or DOI]

Reports should identify the manuscript or article, explain the concern, and provide supporting evidence or relevant sources. Contact details are encouraged so that the editorial office can request clarification.

Anonymous reports may be considered when they contain sufficient, verifiable information.

3. Initial Assessment

The Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor will assess the relevance and credibility of the report and determine whether further clarification is required.

An editor with a relevant conflict of interest will not handle the case. The matter will be assigned to another qualified editor, with publisher involvement where necessary.

Information will be shared only with persons who need it for assessment, investigation, or resolution.

4. Author Response and Further Examination

Where appropriate, the corresponding author will be informed of the concern and invited to provide an explanation and supporting documentation. Relevant co-authors may also be contacted.

The editorial team may request original data, research records, ethics documentation, or other materials needed to assess the reliability of the work.

Editorial processing may be paused while a concern is examined. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before an editorial decision is made.

5. Institutional Involvement

When a concern requires a formal investigation beyond the journal’s authority, the editor may contact the relevant institution or research integrity body.

Unresolved authorship disputes may also be referred to the authors’ institutions. The journal’s role is to protect the reliability of the publication record; institutional bodies are responsible for investigations within their authority.

6. Outcomes

Actions will depend on the evidence, seriousness of the concern, and reliability of the article.

For unpublished manuscripts, outcomes may include continued processing, requests for clarification or revision, or rejection.

For published articles, outcomes may include no further action, a correction, an expression of concern while significant uncertainty remains, or retraction when warranted. Relevant notices will explain the editorial action and link to the affected article.

7. Cooperation and Review

Authors are expected to cooperate with reasonable requests concerning the accuracy and integrity of their work, including after publication.

Authors who identify a significant error should promptly notify the journal and cooperate in correcting the publication record.

Requests to reconsider an outcome should provide a clear explanation and any new evidence. They may be submitted to the editorial office for further assessment.
