Author Guidelines

Jurnal Ilmu Gizi dan Dietetik publishes original research in nutritional sciences and dietetics. Authors must prepare manuscripts according to these guidelines and the journal’s publication ethics policies.

1. Scope and Originality

Manuscripts must address topics within the journal’s Focus and Scope, including nutritional biochemistry, clinical nutrition, community nutrition, sports nutrition, dietetics, health-related food components, supplementation and fortification, food and nutrition security, nutrition education and counselling, and socioeconomic and cultural aspects of nutrition.

Submissions must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under consideration by another journal. All authors must approve the submission.

Authors should consult the Manuscript Types page before preparing their manuscripts.

2. Submission Procedure

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s submission portal:

https://submission3-journal.ipb.ac.id/jgizidietetik/submission

The corresponding author must register or log in, upload the manuscript, and complete the required submission information.

Author names, affiliations, author order, corresponding author details, title, abstract, and keywords entered in OJS must match the manuscript.

Email is used for editorial inquiries and communication. Manuscripts should not be submitted by email or in printed form unless specifically requested by the editorial office.

3. General Formatting

Prepare the manuscript using:

  • Microsoft Word format.

  • Indonesian for the main text.

  • Times New Roman, 12-point font.

  • Line spacing of 1.5, except abstracts, which use single spacing.

  • A left margin of 4 cm and top, right, and bottom margins of 3 cm.

  • A maximum length of 12 pages, including references, tables, and figures.

  • Continuous line numbering from the title to the references.

Tables and figures must appear near their first mention in the text.

Use commas as decimal separators and periods as thousands separators in the Indonesian manuscript. Apply the corresponding language conventions consistently in the English abstract.

4. Manuscript Structure

Research articles must contain:

  1. Indonesian and English titles.

  2. Author names and affiliations.

  3. Corresponding author information.

  4. Indonesian and English abstracts.

  5. Keywords.

  6. Introduction.

  7. Methods.

  8. Results and Discussion.

  9. Conclusion.

  10. Acknowledgments.

  11. Conflict of Interest.

  12. Artificial Intelligence Use Statement.

  13. Author Contributions, mandatory for articles published from the first issue of 2027.

  14. References.

5. Titles and Author Information

Titles

Provide informative titles in Indonesian and English, normally comprising 10–15 words. Titles should identify the central topic or variables without unnecessary introductory wording.

Avoid generic openings such as “A Study of” or “An Analysis of” where a more precise title is possible. Provide a running title of 6–8 words.

Use capitalization for the Indonesian title as specified in the journal template. Write the English title in sentence case and italics.

Authors and Affiliations

Provide each author’s full name without academic titles. State the institutional affiliation, city, postal code, and country.

Clearly identify the corresponding author and provide an active email address. Author information must be accurate and consistent with OJS metadata.

6. Abstracts and Keywords

Provide one abstract in Indonesian and one in English. Each abstract must:

  • Contain no more than 300 words.

  • Be written as a single paragraph with single spacing.

  • Summarize the objective, methods, principal results, and conclusion.

  • Report findings accurately and avoid conclusions beyond the evidence.

Provide three to five keywords in alphabetical order in the relevant language.

7. Introduction

Explain the research problem, relevant scientific evidence, the knowledge gap, and the rationale for the study. State the research objective clearly.

Use relevant primary research to establish the current state of knowledge. The introduction should explain the contribution of the study rather than provide an extensive general review.

8. Methods

Describe the methods in sufficient detail to support evaluation and reproducibility.

As applicable, include:

  • Study design, location, and period.

  • Participants, eligibility criteria, recruitment, and sample size.

  • Materials, equipment, and laboratory procedures.

  • Interventions, measurements, and data collection.

  • Outcome definitions and measurement instruments.

  • Data processing and statistical analysis.

Use terminology appropriate to the study design. Human participants may be described as participants or subjects; laboratory materials may be described as samples.

Research Ethics

Research involving humans or animals must comply with applicable ethical requirements.

Where ethics approval is required, identify the reviewing committee and approval number. Human research must describe informed consent procedures where applicable. Animal research must describe relevant welfare safeguards.

If a study was formally exempted from ethics review, state the basis and identify the body granting or confirming the exemption. Authors must not invent approval information or claim exemption without an appropriate basis.

Do not present research findings in the Methods section.

9. Results and Discussion

Present Results and Discussion in a combined section.

Report participant or sample characteristics and findings relevant to the objectives. Tables and figures should support the text without unnecessary duplication.

Interpret the findings critically, compare them with relevant evidence, explain plausible reasons for agreement or differences, and discuss their implications.

Identify important limitations and explain how they affect interpretation. Distinguish observed findings from proposed explanations and avoid unsupported causal or clinical claims.

10. Conclusion

Answer the research objective directly and concisely. The conclusion must be supported by the results and should not merely repeat numerical findings.

Recommendations are optional and may follow in a separate paragraph within the Conclusion section. Recommendations must be proportionate to the evidence.

11. Acknowledgments and Funding

Acknowledge funding, sponsorship, technical assistance, facilities, and other contributions that do not qualify for authorship.

Identify funding sources and grant numbers where applicable. Explain any relevant sponsor involvement in the research or publication process.

Obtain permission from individuals named in the acknowledgments. Names should be written without academic titles.

12. Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose relevant financial and non-financial interests that could influence, or appear to influence, the work.

If no relevant conflicts exist, use:

“The authors declare no conflicts of interest related to this work.”

The corresponding author must confirm that the statement reflects the declarations of all co-authors.

13. Artificial Intelligence Use Statement

Authors must disclose whether generative artificial intelligence or other AI-assisted technologies were used during manuscript preparation.

In accordance with the journal’s current requirements, permitted use is limited to checking English language and references.

If AI was used, identify the tool and describe its purpose. Authors must independently verify all suggested references against the original sources and remain responsible for accuracy, originality, and the final text.

AI tools must not be listed as authors.

If no AI-assisted technology was used, authors may state:

“The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technology was used in preparing this manuscript.”

14. Author Contributions — Effective from 2027

An Author Contributions statement is mandatory for articles published from the first issue of 2027, including manuscripts submitted earlier but scheduled for publication in 2027.

Identify each author’s actual contribution using full names or clearly identifiable initials. Authors are encouraged to use the CRediT taxonomy.

All listed authors must satisfy the journal’s Authorship Criteria. All authors must approve the final manuscript and accept accountability for the work.

This reporting requirement does not automatically require contribution statements to be added to articles published before 2027.

15. References and Citations

Include only sources cited in the manuscript, and ensure that every citation has a matching reference entry.

Prioritize literature published within the last 10 years. More than 80% of references should be primary research sources.

The recommended number of references is 10–20, with a maximum of 30.

Use the Harvard author–date system. Arrange the reference list alphabetically by the first author’s surname.

In-text citation examples:

  • One author: Khomsan (2014) or (Khomsan 2014).

  • Two authors: Khomsan and Sukandar (2010) or (Khomsan & Sukandar 2010).

  • Three or more authors: Khomsan et al. (2013) or (Khomsan et al. 2013).

List up to 10 authors in each reference. For sources with more than 10 authors, list the first 10 followed by “et al.”

Provide complete bibliographic details and DOI links where available. Verify author names, publication years, titles, journal details, and links against the original sources.

Reference-management software such as Zotero, EndNote, or Mendeley is encouraged.

16. Tables and Figures

The combined number of tables and figures must not exceed eight.

Number tables and figures separately in the order cited. Provide clear titles, units, legends, and explanations of abbreviations.

Titles should be left aligned and use sentence case, with appropriate capitalization for proper names.

Submit photographic illustrations in JPEG format, following the existing minimum specification of 100 dpi or 50 KB per image. Images must remain clear and legible at publication size; file size alone does not establish adequate quality.

Provide the underlying Microsoft Excel data for charts where applicable. Do not include identifiable personal information without appropriate permission.

17. Peer Review and Revision

Manuscripts undergo editorial screening and double-blind peer review in accordance with the journal’s Peer Review Process.

Authors must submit accurate author information. The manuscript version supplied to reviewers must have identifying information removed.

When revising, provide a point-by-point response to editorial and reviewer comments. Explain changes clearly and support any disagreement with scientific reasoning.

Revisions do not guarantee acceptance.

18. Publication Fee and Copyright

The publication fee is IDR 400,000 per accepted article, applicable from Volume 4 Number 2 (2025), excluding transfer charges. Payment instructions are provided after acceptance.

Authors retain copyright. Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
