Conflict of Interest

Jurnal Ilmu Gizi dan Dietetik requires authors, reviewers, and editors to disclose relevant interests that could influence, or reasonably appear to influence, the research, its interpretation, or editorial decisions.

This policy complements the journal’s Publication Ethics Statement and Author Guidelines.

1. Types of Conflicts of Interest

Conflicts of interest may be financial or non-financial. Examples include employment, research funding, consultancy, honoraria, share ownership, patents, personal relationships, academic competition, and institutional or professional relationships relevant to the work.

Disclosure does not automatically prevent publication or participation in editorial assessment. It enables the journal to evaluate and manage potential sources of bias.

2. Authors’ Responsibilities

All authors must disclose relevant interests in a Conflict of Interest statement in the manuscript. The corresponding author is responsible for collecting and accurately reporting declarations from all co-authors.

Funding and material support must also be acknowledged. Where applicable, authors should explain the sponsor’s role in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the decision to submit.

If no relevant conflicts exist, authors should include:

“The authors declare no conflicts of interest related to this work.”

If a conflict exists, the statement must identify the author concerned and describe the relevant relationship.

Authors must notify the editorial office if their declaration changes during the publication process.

3. Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers must disclose potential conflicts before accepting an assignment and decline to review when their impartiality may be compromised.

Relevant circumstances may include close personal relationships, recent collaboration, supervisory relationships, financial interests, or direct academic competition with the authors.

If a conflict becomes apparent during review, the reviewer must inform the handling editor promptly. The editor will determine whether reassignment is necessary.

Reviewers must not use confidential information obtained through peer review for personal or professional advantage.

4. Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors must declare relevant conflicts and withdraw from handling affected manuscripts. Responsibility will be transferred to another qualified editor who has no relevant conflict.

Manuscripts authored by an editor or editorial board member must undergo the journal’s normal assessment and peer-review procedures under independent editorial handling. The author-editor must not participate in reviewer selection or decisions concerning their own manuscript.

Sponsorship, financial support, and publication fees must not determine editorial decisions.

5. Undisclosed Conflicts

Concerns about an undisclosed conflict may be reported to the editorial office with supporting information.

The journal will assess the concern, request clarification where appropriate, and consider its effect on the reliability of the work or the independence of editorial assessment.

Actions may include an updated declaration, reassignment of an editor or reviewer, further assessment, or a published correction. Serious concerns affecting research integrity will be handled under the journal’s publication ethics procedures.
