A tidal trap (gombang) is a traditional fishing gear with construction weaknesses, including the absence of a trap cod-end and limited wings. The purpose of the research is to determine the differences in the composition of fish species and their weights caught under four different treatments, and demonstrate that the addition of a cod-end, leader net, and a combination of both will affect the weight composition of the tidal trap catch without reducing the diversity of species. The method used for this study was experimental fishing, conducted from May to August 2023in the waters of Prapat Tunggal Village, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. Fishing trials were carried out over 17 trips. The results show that both the control and treatment tidal trap caught the same 12 fish species: acetes shrimp (Acetes sp.), red shrimp (Solenocera depressa), tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon), shorthead hairfin anchovy (Ilisha sp.), longjaw thryssa (Thryssa setiostris), rainbow sardine (Dussumieria acuta), serra spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus brasiliensis), wolf-herring (Chirocentrus sp.), croaker (Johnius trachycephalus), largehead hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus), bombay duck fish (Horpodon neherus), and cuttlefish (Sepia sp.). Differences in the treatments of tidal traps impacted the catch results. The cod-end and leader net tidal trap (P3) yielded the highest total weight at 1,710.82 kg (40.16%), followed by the cod-end tidal trap P1 at 1,158.90 kg (27.20%), the leader net tidal trap P2 at 824.27 kg (19.35%), and the control tidal trap P0 at 566.36 kg (13.29%).
