Publication Ethics

Background
Jurnal Teknologi Perikanan dan Kelautan (JTPK) is committed to upholding publication ethics and integrity throughout the editorial and publication process. These ethical principles provide guidance for authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers to ensure that all manuscripts are handled in a fair, transparent, and ethical manner. The policies are intended to promote the quality, credibility, and integrity of scholarly publishing while preventing research misconduct and other unethical publication practices.

Authorship
All persons listed as authors should qualify for authorship. Such authorship should be limited to persons who have contributed significantly to the conception, design, execution, data acquisition, data analysis, or interpretation of the manuscript. All other persons who have participated in certain important aspects of the research but do not qualify as authors should be acknowledged. Authorship is the responsibility of the corresponding author, who should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Requests to add or remove author(s) or to arrange the author names of the accepted manuscript before it is published must be accompanied by a written request addressed to the Editor-in-Chief. This letter must be signed by all authors of the paper. An article submission form must also be updated by every author and resubmitted to the Editorial Office.

Responsibilities of authors
Authors are required to comply with the journal's editorial policies and cooperate throughout the peer-review process. Authors are responsible for providing original, accurate, and reliable data and ensuring that the submitted manuscript is free from plagiarism, data fabrication, and data falsification. The submitted manuscript should not be under consideration or accepted for publication elsewhere. Where parts of the data have been published elsewhere, the sources must be acknowledged or cited accordingly. When reproducing data from other sources, proper citation and permission are required. Authors should cooperate with the journal in publishing corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary.

Responsibilities of reviewers
Reviewers are requested to assist in improving the quality of the manuscript through an objective review process within a scheduled period and contribute to the decision-making process on the manuscript. If reviewers find any published or submitted content similar to that under review, the editor has to be informed. Reviewers are expected to conduct reviews objectively and maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained during the peer-review process.

Responsibilities of editors
Editors are responsible for making editorial decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of submitted manuscripts. Editors should be objective and fair when conducting their duties without making any discrimination on gender, ethnicity, religion, political view, or geographical origin of the authors. Editors should also accept manuscripts based on academic merit and without commercial influence. Editors shall preserve the anonymity of reviewers and the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts. Information obtained during the editorial process must be used solely for editorial purposes. Editors are also responsible for identifying potential publication misconduct and taking appropriate actions in accordance with the journal's policies and the COPE Guidelines.

Conflict of interest
Authors, reviewers, and editors are required to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that may influence the research, peer-review process, or editorial decisions. Authors must declare any financial, personal, professional, or institutional relationships that could affect the interpretation of their work, and all sources of research funding must be clearly stated in the manuscript. Reviewers and editors should decline to participate in the review or editorial handling of manuscripts where a conflict of interest may compromise their objectivity. All information obtained during the peer-review process must be treated as confidential and must not be used for personal or professional benefit.

Human and animal ethics issues
If the work involves the use of animal or human subjects, authors should ensure and state in the Methods section that all procedures were performed in compliance with relevant laws and institutional guidelines and that the appropriate institutional committee(s) have approved them. Authors should include a statement in the manuscript that informed consent was obtained for experimentation with human subjects. The privacy rights of human subjects must always be considered. For experiments involving humans, authors should ensure that the work described has been carried out in accordance with The Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki) (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects/).

Publication misconduct
JTPK is committed to identifying and preventing publication misconduct throughout the editorial and publication process. The Editorial Board takes reasonable steps to evaluate submitted manuscripts for potential ethical concerns, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, and other forms of research misconduct. The journal does not encourage or knowingly permit unethical publication practices.

Authors, reviewers, and editors should maintain the integrity of the academic record during the whole process of publication. Business needs should be precluded from compromising intellectual and ethical standards.

When there are suspected cases of publication misconduct, including redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, citation manipulation, data fabrication, data falsification, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other ethical problems involving a submitted or published manuscript, JTPK will follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Flowcharts. Each case will be reviewed by the Editorial Board, and the final decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief. Appropriate editorial actions will be taken in accordance with the journal's policies and the COPE Guidelines.

Complaints and Appeals
JTPK is committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and impartial process in addressing complaints and appeals related to editorial decisions, peer review, publication ethics, and journal management.

Authors who wish to appeal an editorial decision may submit a written request to the Editor-in-Chief, clearly stating the reasons for the appeal and providing any relevant supporting evidence. Each appeal will be carefully reviewed by the editorial board in an objective and unbiased manner.

Complaints concerning the editorial process, ethical issues, or journal policies will be treated based on the available evidence and the journal's editorial guidelines. Submission of an appeal does not automatically result in a revision of the editorial decision. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, taking into account the scientific merit of the manuscript, reviewers' recommendations, ethical considerations, and the journal's editorial policies.

Post-publication Discussion and Corrections
JTPK welcomes constructive post-publication discussion to promote the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. Concerns or comments regarding published articles may be submitted to the Editorial Office and will be evaluated in accordance with the journal's editorial policies. When necessary, the journal may publish corrections, corrigenda, expressions of concern, or retract articles in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines

The journal refers to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Guidelines for policies not stated in these instructions. COPE Guidelines are formal COPE policies intended to advise editors and publishers on expected publication ethics practices.
