Abstract

The fishing business in Coastal Fishing Port (PPP) of Larangan, Tegal Regency is one of the main economic supports for the coastal community of the Tegal regency and it is a supplier of raw material for anchovies (Stolephorus sp.) processing in Pemalang and Kendal areas. The main catch of fishing activities in the area of PPP Larangan is anchovy. The fishing gear used by fishermen in PPP Larangan are boat seine and purse seine. This study aimed to describe the boat and purse seines fishery in the area of PPP Larangan, calculated the productivity value of boat and purse seines catches in the morning and evening catches, and compared the effectiveness of the boat and purse seines catches in the morning and evening catches. The boat and purse seines fishing gear operated at the area of Larangan Coastal Fishing Port were one day fishing time i.e., morning and evening fishing. The productivity value of boat and purse seines in the morning catch was greater than in the evening catch. The effectiveness level of morning catching was more effective based on productivity value compared to night catching for both boat and purse seines fishing gear.
