Determinants of Wasting Incidence in Toddlers in the Working Area of the Pusako Health Center, Siak Regency

Pusako District still faces nutritional problems, namely wasting caused by low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding, infectious diseases, hygiene, and sanitation. This research analyzes the determinant factors of wasting incidents among toddlers in the Pusako Health Center working area, Siak Regency. Quantitative research with a case-control design, this research was conducted on June 5-20 2024. The sampling technique was carried out by total sampling in the wasting group and cluster random sampling in the non-wasting group with a sample size of 49 subjects in each group. Wasting was measured using anthropometric measurements and exclusive breastfeeding, infectious diseases, hygiene, and sanitation were measured using a questionnaire. The analysis consisted of univariate, bivariate using the chi-square test, and multivariate using the logistic regression test. The results of the bivariate analysis show that there was a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, infectious diseases, hygiene, sanitation, and the incidence of wasting in toddlers. The results of the multivariate analysis showed a relationship between infectious diseases sig.0.000 and hygiene sig.0.001. In conclusion, the determinant factors for wasting among toddlers in the Pusako Health Center working area, Siak Regency were infectious diseases and hygiene. Advice was expected from the community to maintain health, maintain the cleanliness and environment of toddlers, and meet the nutritional needs of toddlers.
