Competition between fishing gear to get the maximum catch, raises fears of over fishing. Therefore, environmentally friendly fishing gear is a reference in the use of technology and fishing gear. This study aims to determine the level of environmental friendliness of each gill net fishing gear in Nipah Panjang 1 Village, based on FAO (1995) criteria. The research was held on February 2018. The method used in this study is a survey. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with fishermen respondents who had sailed for at least 5 years and the ship used was at least 3 GT. Samples were taken as much as 50% of each fishing gear population to analyze the level of environmental friendliness. The results of the analysis of the environmental friendliness of the fishing gear gill net in Nipah Panjang 1 Village indicate that the net kurau gill is included in the category of very environmentally friendly fishing gear with a value of 28. While for gill net 7 inch fishing gear, millennium net gill, and net gill 4 inches are included in the criteria for environmentally friendly fishing gear with values of 25.2, 23.8 and 23.5 respectively.
