Jurnal Ilmu Produksi dan Teknologi Hasil Peternakan (JIPTHP) implements policies regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools in the preparation of manuscripts, following the guidelines established by Elsevier.

For Authors – Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Scientific Writing

If authors employ generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during the writing process, these tools should be used solely to enhance the clarity, readability, and language quality of the manuscript. Their use must remain under human supervision and control. Authors are required to carefully review and revise any AI-generated output, as such tools may produce content that appears authoritative but could be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. Ultimately, the authors bear full responsibility and accountability for the content of the manuscript.

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in their Author Declaration Form and manuscript by including a dedicated section titled “Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process” before the reference list. This statement will also be included in the published article.

Statement example:

“During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME of TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.”

Declaring the use of such technologies promotes transparency and fosters trust among authors, readers, reviewers, editors, and other contributors. It also helps ensure compliance with the terms of use of the relevant tools or technologies.

Authors must not list AI or AI-assisted technologies as authors or co-authors, nor cite AI as an author. Authorship carries responsibilities and duties that can only be performed by humans. Each author (and co-author) is responsible for ensuring that any questions regarding the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are properly investigated and resolved. Authorship also requires the ability to approve the final version of the manuscript and consent to its submission. Furthermore, authors must ensure that the work is original, that all listed authors meet the criteria for authorship, and that the manuscript does not infringe upon the rights of third parties. Authors are encouraged to review the journal’s Ethics in Publishing policy before submitting their manuscript.

JIPTHP does not allow the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools to create or manipulate images in submitted manuscripts. This includes modifying images by enhancing, obscuring, repositioning, removing, or adding specific features within figures or illustrations. Adjustments such as brightness, contrast, or color balance are acceptable only if they do not obscure or remove any information from the original image.

For Reviewers – Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Peer Review Process

When reviewers are invited to evaluate a manuscript, the document must be treated as strictly confidential. Reviewers must not upload the manuscript, in whole or in part, into any generative AI tool, as doing so may compromise the confidentiality and proprietary rights of the authors. Additionally, if the manuscript contains personally identifiable information, uploading it may violate data privacy regulations.

This confidentiality requirement also applies to the peer review report, which may contain sensitive information about the manuscript and/or its authors. Therefore, reviewers should not upload their review reports into AI tools, even if the intention is only to improve language or readability.
