Reviewer Guidelines for ARSHI Veterinary Letters

Thank you for agreeing to review for ARSHI Vet Lett. Peer review is essential for maintaining the quality, integrity and clinical relevance of the research we publish. As a reviewer, you are acting on behalf of the journal and its community of authors, clinicians, and readers.

1. Before You Accept the Invitation

  • Ensure that you are qualified to review the manuscript, given your expertise in veterinary clinical practice, diagnostics, treatment-intervention, or applied biomedical aspects.

  • Confirm that there are no conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, personal) with the authors, their institutions or the subject of the manuscript.

  • Verify that the manuscript falls within the journal’s scope (clinical case reports, case series, applied veterinary studies in tropical/Southeast Asia, etc.).

  • Ensure you can complete the review in the requested time frame and commit to confidentiality of the manuscript.

2. Conducting the Review

When reviewing the manuscript, please consider the following key questions:

Originality & relevance

  • Does the case or study present a clinically significant or educationally valuable contribution to veterinary medicine, especially in the tropical/Southeast Asian context?

  • Is the manuscript free from plagiarism, redundant publication or “salami-slicing” of previous work?

Methodology & data integrity

  • Are methods, diagnostics, interventions and outcomes described clearly and in sufficient detail to allow replication or meaningful learning from the case?

  • Are data presented accurately, completely and without misleading manipulation?

  • For case reports: Is the clinical history, diagnostic work-up, treatment, outcome and discussion well described and of practical relevance?

  • Are ethical approvals, owner consent (when applicable) and animal welfare issues properly addressed?

Structure & clarity

  • Is the manuscript well organised (title, abstract, introduction, case presentation, discussion, conclusion, references)?

  • Is the language clear, concise and understandable by clinicians and researchers alike?

  • Are figures and tables of good quality, properly labelled, and appropriate for the content?

Ethics & transparency

  • Are conflicts of interest and funding sources clearly disclosed?

  • Has the manuscript adhered to relevant reporting guidelines (e.g., CARE for case reports, ARRIVE for animal studies)?

  • Are any reused materials (text, data, images) cited and properly acknowledged?

3. Recommendation Categories

Please provide a clear recommendation to the editor, using one of the following options:

  • Accept

  • Minor revision

  • Major revision

  • Reject

Be sure to provide constructive comments to authors, indicating both strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript, and offering guidance for improvement where appropriate.

4. Confidentiality & Professionalism

  • The manuscript and any supporting data are confidential. Do not share or discuss the review outside the journal’s editorial system.

  • Treat authors’ ideas and work with respect and integrity. Do not use any part of the manuscript under review for your own research.

  • Declare any previously unreported conflicts of interest immediately.

5. Recognition and Timing

  • Please submit your review within the timeframe specified by the editorial office. Timely reviews help speed up publication and benefit the wider veterinary community.

  • Our editorial team acknowledges reviewers’ contributions, and you may opt in for recognition (e.g., via ORCID or other reviewer credit systems).
