Abstract

Large-scale infrastructure development plays a crucial role in driving urban transformation, particularly in peri-urban areas that are experiencing rapid development pressures. One example is the construction of the Pakansari International Stadium in Bogor Regency, Indonesia, which has been accompanied by the expansion of infrastructure and built-up areas in its surrounding region. This study aims to analyze area transformation by examining the spatio-temporal changes in built-up land area and building growth between 2006 and 2023 using high-resolution Google Earth imagery and ArcGIS Pro. A spatio-temporal analysis was conducted to identify changes in built-up land, while the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) was employed to evaluate the rate of urban growth. The analysis utilized imagery acquired in 2006, 2011, 2018, and 2023. The results indicate that the built-up area increased from 303.35 hectares (31%) in 2006 to 629.74 hectares (65%) in 2023. Although the annual growth rate of built-up land declined from 7.16% during 2006–2011 to 3.09% during 2018–2023, building growth became more pronounced after the stadium was completed, with an increase of 3,150 buildings compared to 2,964 buildings before its construction. These findings suggest that the development of Pakansari International Stadium has acted as a catalyst for area transformation, shifting the development pattern from infrastructure expansion toward more intensive land utilization. The findings provide valuable information to support spatial planning, green open space provision, and sustainable regional development policies.
