AI Tools Usage Policy

Declaration of Generative AI Use

Journal of Regional and Rural Development Planning (Jurnal Perencanaan Pembangunan Wilayah dan Perdesaan - JP2WD) recognizes that generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies can support researchers in improving the efficiency and quality of scholarly writing when used responsibly. These technologies may assist authors in language refinement, organization of ideas, literature exploration, and other editorial tasks.

However, AI tools must not replace the intellectual contribution, critical thinking, scientific judgment, or ethical responsibility of the authors. Authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific quality of their manuscripts.

Acceptable Use of AI Tools

Authors may use AI tools to assist with activities such as:

  • Improving grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language quality.
  • Enhancing readability and writing style.
  • Organizing manuscript structure.
  • Brainstorming research ideas or keywords.
  • Summarizing literature for preliminary understanding, provided that all information is independently verified by the authors.

Any AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors before submission.

Unacceptable Use of AI Tools

AI tools must not be used to:

  • Generate an entire manuscript or substantial portions of original scientific content without significant human contribution.
  • Fabricate, manipulate, or falsify research data, results, figures, tables, references, or citations.
  • Produce misleading interpretations or unsupported conclusions.
  • Conduct peer review or editorial decision-making on behalf of authors.
  • Create content that infringes copyright or violates intellectual property rights.
  • Translate scientific content without careful human verification.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for:

  • Verifying the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of all AI-assisted outputs.
  • Ensuring that all statements, data, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions are their own.
  • Confirming that references cited in the manuscript are authentic and accurately represented.
  • Ensuring compliance with ethical standards, research integrity, and copyright regulations.
  • Maintaining confidentiality when using AI tools and avoiding the upload of confidential, proprietary, or sensitive information to third-party AI services.

Disclosure Requirement

If generative AI or AI-assisted technologies have been used in preparing the manuscript, authors must disclose their use at the time of submission by including a statement in a separate section immediately before the References.

During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [NAME OF AI TOOL] for [PURPOSE OF USE, e.g., language editing, grammar improvement, or manuscript organization]. After using this tool, the authors carefully reviewed, revised, and verified all content and take full responsibility for the content of the published article.

No disclosure is required for basic writing tools that only perform spelling, grammar, or reference checking without generating substantive content.

AI Authorship

Generative AI tools, including but not limited to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and similar technologies, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires accountability, intellectual contribution, and responsibility that can only be fulfilled by human authors.

Editors and Reviewers

To preserve the confidentiality and integrity of the peer review process, editors and reviewers of JP2WD must not upload manuscripts or any confidential review materials to public generative AI systems or AI-assisted services that may retain or reuse submitted content for model training.

Editors and reviewers remain responsible for all editorial evaluations and decisions and must ensure that confidentiality is maintained throughout the review process.

Compliance

Failure to disclose the use of generative AI when required or misuse of AI tools in violation of this policy may constitute publication misconduct and may result in editorial actions, including manuscript rejection, publication correction, retraction, or other measures in accordance with the publication ethics of JP2WD.

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect developments in AI technologies and international standards for scholarly publishing.
