Article Retraction, Withdrawal, and Correction Policy

Jurnal Mutu Pangan is committed to maintain the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the published scientific articles. The journal follows the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling article withdrawal, correction, and retraction issues. Decisions related to article withdrawal, correction, and retraction are made based on editorial assessment, documented supporting evidence, and ethical consideration to preserve the quality and reliability of published articles. The final decision regarding any correction, withdrawal, or retraction rests with the Editor-in-Chief and will be made in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and COPE guidelines. Decisions will be made after a strict standard of review and evaluation is done.

Article Retraction

Jurnal Mutu Pangan may retract a published article when there is clear evidence that the findings or conclusions are unreliable and have substantial error due to research misconduct or honest error, including data fabrication data falsification, major methodological errors, or miscalculations. Retraction may also be considered in cases of plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication published elsewhere, serious ethical violations, manipulation of the peer-review process, inappropriate authorships, or other forms of publication misconduct that significantly compromise the integrity of the published articles.

When concerns are raised, the editorial team will conduct an investigation and provide the authors with an opportunity to respond. The Editor-in-Chief may consult reviewers, editorial board members, independent experts, or the authors' institution when necessary. Ethics review may be necessary to ensure the best-practice approach. If retraction is deemed appropriate, a public retraction notice explaining the reasons for the decision will be published and linked to the original article. The retracted article will remain accessible for records purpose but will be clearly identified as retracted. Authors will also receive the notification, and when necessary, to the relevant parties such as author’s institution. Complete removal of the published articles is reserved only for exceptional circumstances, such as related to legal requirement, serious privacy or safety issues that cannot be addressed by retraction.

Copyright does not include the right to retract. Authors who retain copyright of an article cannot retract it on their own after publication. Protecting the integrity of the scientific record comes first, and COPE's Retraction Guidelines apply.

Article Withdrawal

Authors may request withdrawal of their manuscript before publication by submitting a formal written request to the editorial office, including a clear explanation for the withdrawal. The editorial team reserves the right to evaluate the request and determine the appropriate course of action. The authors will confirm the outcome in formal letter after a decision is made.

Manuscripts that have entered the peer-review process involve substantial commitments of time and effort from editors, reviewers, and journal staff. Therefore, authors are strongly discouraged from withdrawing manuscripts after the review process has commenced. If authors request withdrawal after the manuscript has undergone peer review, any Article Processing Charge (APC, IDR 500.000) that has already been paid will be non-refundable. Payment of the APC covers editorial and publication services already provided and does not influence editorial decisions and does not guarantee acceptance or publication of the manuscript.

To process a withdrawal request, the corresponding author must submit a formal withdrawal letter on behalf of all co-authors, addressed to the Editor-in-Chief.

Once an article has been published, it cannot be withdrawn solely because an author changes their mind, wishes to submit the work to another journal, or disagrees with a co-author. Authors requesting the removal, correction, or retraction of a published article must provide a clear explanation of the concern, together with supporting evidence. A concern may be raised by an individual author even in the absence of agreement from all co-authors.

Upon receiving such a request, the editorial team will conduct an assessment in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and applicable COPE guidelines. Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, the Editor-in-Chief may determine that no action is required, or that a correction, expression of concern, or retraction is more appropriate. Submission of a request does not automatically result in the withdrawal, deletion, correction, or retraction of an article.

Article Correction

Jurnal Mutu Pangan recognized that error may occasionally occur in published articles. Corrections may be issued when a publication remains scientifically valid but contains errors that may affect understanding, interpretation, attribution, or accuracy. Examples include inaccuracies in author information, affiliations, acknowledgments, references, figures, tables, or minor factual errors that do not invalidate the study's findings.

Corrections may be initiated by the authors, readers, reviewers, or editors. The editorial team will evaluate the reported issue and determine whether a correction is necessary.  The editor will contact the authors for clarification before a decision is made. When approved, a correction notice will be published and linked to the original article to ensure transparency and maintain the accuracy of the published articles. Depending on the nature of the issue, the journal may publish an Erratum (publisher error), Corrigendum (author error), or Addendum (additional information or clarification from the authors).
