Spatial Analysis for Urbanization Control, Facility Distribution, and Rural Sustainability
Spatial analysis is an analytical approach in regional development planning and management system that utilizes analyzed spatial data. One of the development issues of regions that is undergoing the process of urbanization, especially in suburban or peri-urban areas, is the issue of urban sprawl, which is the process of irregular and scattered urban physical growth with low density, causing various forms of inefficiency and waste of resources. Along with spatial analysis, analysis of development sustainability at local and village scales is a regional-based analysis that can provide support in making development policy/planning decisions based on locally specific characteristics of the region. In this issue of the journal, four out of five articles utilize spatial analysis approach in methods to analyze urban sprawl, settlement planning, and health facilities. The five articles are oriented towards efforts to maintain sustainable development, both at the regional and local, village scales.
