Abstract

Since long time ago, the diversity of tree species derives humankind to use forest resources as comodity that fulfill primary needs such as foods, clothes, and houses. Ability to identify tree species becomes necessary to ease the utilization of plants. Shorea, with common vernicular name as meranti from family of the Dipterocarpaceae, is one of the prominent tree species from Indonesia which produce good quality timber. In order to maintain the productivity of timber, there should be a proper management of Shorea timber stand. One of the recipes are maintaining the natural regeneration of seedling. Identification of Shorea seedling is required to prevent the unwanted species grows on the stand. This research was taken on January until April 2019 in Nursery Center of Forestry Research and Development, Bogor city. Data collected will be analyse by arrange data into matrices and then the identification key can be created. Special characteristic of Shorea morphology is the type of third vein scalariform veination, has a gland on leaves surface, has a stipule, and then mostly has a swollen and kneed petiole (geniculate).
