Analisis Asupan Vitamin B12, Tekanan Darah, dan Kejadian Demensia pada Lansia di Dinas Sosial UPT Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Werdha Jombang Analysis of Vitamin B12 Intake, Blood Pressure, and Dementia Incidence in Elderly at Dinas Sosial UPT Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Werdha Jombang

Abstract

Inadequate intake of vitamin B12 may affect to the nervous tissue since vitamin B12 plays an important role in the nervous system. The incidence of hypertension is related to the cognitive function of the elderly due to the aging process which leads to the certain changes in the elderly, one of which is a decrease in cognitive function. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between the level of vitamin B12 intake and blood pressure with the incidence of dementia in the elderly at the Social Service UPT Tresna Werdha Jombang Social Service. This research was an analytical observational research with cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study was 53 respondents which calculated by using a purposive sampling technique. The instrument used in this study including MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination) questionnaire to measure the level of dementia, food weighing form to measure the vitamin B12 intake, and Sphygmomanometer to measure blood pressure. Data analysis is carried out by using Rank Spearman test. The results showed that most of respondents (77.4%) had less vitamin B12 intake, as many as 41.1% of respondents experienced hypertension, and 37.7% had a probable level of dementia disorder. The results of statistic rank spearmen test showed that there was a significant relationship between vitamin B12 intake and the incidence of dementia (p= 0.002) and there was a significant relationship between blood pressure and the incidence of dementia (p=0.000).
