Abstract

This study aims to analyze demand patterns and determine appropriate inventory control methods for fresh vegetables and fruits at Hypermart WTC Jambi City. The study employed ABC analysis, the Single-Period (Newsvendor) model, and the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model to classify inventory priorities and optimize inventory decisions according to demand characteristics. The results indicate that vegetable commodities generally exhibit relatively stable demand, whereas fruit commodities experience greater demand variability. The ABC analysis reveals that a relatively small number of commodities account for the highest proportion of annual inventory value, highlighting the need for differentiated inventory control policies. The Single-Period model is more appropriate for commodities with fluctuating demand because it balances the risks of overstocking and understocking, while the EOQ model is better suited to commodities with relatively stable demand by optimizing order quantities and replenishment schedules. However, the findings also show that actual inventory practices at Hypermart WTC Jambi City do not always align with theoretical recommendations because inventory decisions are influenced by product perishability, supplier flexibility, and operational considerations. Therefore, integrating quantitative inventory control methods with practical operational factors can improve inventory efficiency, maintain product availability, and reduce losses associated with perishable products.
