North Sumatra Province is one of Indonesia's rice production centers, playing a crucial role in supporting national food security. However, rice farming households in this region face various pressures, particularly those related to climate change. In 2024, the El Niño phenomenon caused drought in Serdang Bedagai Regency, impacting rice farming activities. This study aims to analyze the vulnerability of rice farming households to climate change and identify the adaptation strategies implemented. Data were collected from 95 rice farming households using purposive sampling and analyzed using the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI), which encompasses ten main components, including natural disasters, land conditions, air availability, food security, health, sociodemographics, knowledge and skills, finances, livelihood strategies, and social networks. The results indicate a moderate level of vulnerability, with the highest values in the health (0.612) and finance (0.588) components, followed by food (0.502) and air (0.500). These findings indicate that farmer vulnerability primarily affects household health and economic aspects. This study provides empirical contributions in identifying the main dimensions of rice farmers' vulnerability at the local level and policy recommendations for local governments to strengthen access to health services, expand agricultural financing, and improve the institutional capacity of farmer groups to support the resilience of farmer household livelihoods.
