1. Format for Policy Brief publications
Authors should follow that the type of the submitted article is policy brief. Policy brief are original and innovative reports which represent the critical reviews of international, national and regional policies with deep discussion in the understanding of a significant problem related to agriculture, marine, and tropical biosciences. They should have no more than 50 references. Policy brief usually typed between 3,000 ~ 5,000 words of text (including references, note and captions) are expected to present a major advance.

2. Manuscript submission
Manuscript should be written clear and simple so that they are accessible to readers in other disciplines. The decision of the publication will be notified to the authors using email or phone. Repeated submission of the same paper will not be acknowledged. All paper submission to Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika will be treated as confidential documents. Our peer review process is also confidential and the identities of reviewersare not released.Authors might be asked to provide four reviewer candidates related to the research theme. Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika will decide who will review the article and it is not necessary to include reviewer provided by the author. Research paper that are selected for in-depth review are evaluated by at least two outside reviewers. Reviewers are contacted before we send the documents and asked to return comments within 1 to 2 weeks. Selected papers are edited to improve accuracy and clarity and for length.

Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika makes decision about accepted papers as soon as possible. All manuscript are handled electronically troughout the consideration process. Authors will be informed within a week if the paper is not being considered.

3. Manuscript format
All manuscript should by typed in 1,15 line spacing and 11 point of Calibri font in A4 paper with margins 2,5 cm on all four sides. Use line numbers for all manuscript. Page numbers should be located at the right bottom. Manuscript should be between 3 – 6 pages (including tables and figures). We only receive digital file of the manuscript (word file), authors must ensure that the PC used to write the manuscript is free of virus. All manuscript (research article and short communication) should be divided into the following headings:

  • Title page
  • Key Issues
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Discussion
  • Recomendation
  • References

3.1. Title Page
The title page should include complete manuscript title (no more than 13 words) and a short title which will be used as a “running head”. Short title should not exceed 60 characters including space.

3.2. Authors information
Authors information must include full name of each author (without title), the present address and department and institution in which the work was conducted. Add phone, fax numbers and E-mail address for the correspondence author. The author information should be send in separated document.

3.3. Abstract
This section should convince readers that the policy brief is worthy of deeper consideration. The summary section is especially important for audiences such as policymakers, who often have limited time and need to quickly grasp the relevance and significance of the issue by reading this section. The summary should consist of only one paragraph, with a maximum length of 200 words, and should not include any references.

3.4. Keywords
Author must provide 3 to 5 keyword written alphabetically.

3.5. Introduction

This section is intended to convince policymakers that there is currently an urgent problem that requires action. The context and significance of the issue serve as the introduction and the initial foundation of the policy brief. As part of the introduction, it usually includes the following: a) a clear statement of the problem or issue; b) a brief description of the scale and causes of the problem; c) a clear statement of the policy implications of the issue, establishing why the problem is important and relevant to current policy; and d) research findings integrated throughout this section.

Paragraphs in the introduction should include definitions of any key terms, a sense of urgency to act, and supporting evidence such as references or statistics where useful. The section should end with a sentence that explains the purpose or objective of the policy brief. It also needs to clarify the impact on society and/or the government if the problem is not addressed.

3.6. Discussion
This section contains the discussion, which may be divided into several parts using engaging headings; it is also acceptable to directly use chapter titles related to the issue. The writing in this section is expected not to be overly technical. It should present the key findings or important issues derived from the research results or the identification of empirical conditions, including: i) a summary of the existing facts related to an issue or problem, along with data interpretation; ii) a discussion of the issue within the national context; and iii) an explanation of its relevance to policy.

3.7. Recommendations

This section provides a detailed and persuasive proposal on how current policy approaches need to be changed. It includes a clear outline of specific practical steps to be implemented by particular stakeholders within a defined timeframe, and these steps should be actionable and supported by evidence where necessary.

The recommendations section addresses the possible implications of the study findings for policy change. It explains what steps policymakers should take next and offers guidance in the form of appropriate and concrete actions to be undertaken. The author must ensure that the recommendations are highly relevant, credible, and feasible to implement.

3.8. References
References only list the published or accepted material for publication and should be at least 80% primary references (journal articles). Accepted article(s) but not yet published should be sent as manuscript appendix. Website, personal communications, unpublished data should be incorporated in the text in parentheses. Example: ... to search the similar gene with obtained DNA sequence, comparation for homology was done by BLAST search (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast). Personal communication need to be written with the initials surname of the source accompanied with the year of the statement, e.g., (William 2007, personal communication). Authors should provide proof(s) of the communication.

Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika follows the name-year citation style. All works included in the reference section should be referred to the text. They should be referred to in the text by the name(s) of the first author and the year of publication in parentheses, using the following format:

(Nelson &Cox 2005) or Nelson and Cox (2005). If the authors is more than two, use the first author's name and "et al.". The order for references within parentheses in the textshould be typed start from the oldest year (Syaefudin & Pierce 2001; Morinaka et al. 2002; Rubinoff & Sperling 2002). If the references have the same year, place them alphabetically. Forworks by the same author(s) in the same year, append a lowercase a, b, c, etc. to the year of publication.

All authors should be listed in the reference. Journal name should be written in full not inabbreviation (Editor will make the journal name in short). The name of the authors in reference should be start from his/her last name followed by intials of first and middle name. For example “David L. Nelson” should be typed “Nelson DL”.

3.9. Tables
These should be typewritten, single-spaced, each one on a separate page and numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Tables should include a short but concise title. Vertical and horizontal lines should be avoided in the tables. Place explanatory matter in footnotes, including any non-standard abbreviation. If data from another published or unpublished.

4. Abbreviations and Units
Generally, units must be abbreviated according to the International System of Units (SI units: http://www.bipm.org/en/home/). It is important to maintain the capital letters and lower case letters as they appear in the abbreviation to avoid confusion with other abbreviations. In devising such abbreviations and symbols, the recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee of IUBMB and the IUPAC-IUBMB Joint Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (see http://www.chem.qmul.ac.uk/iubmb/) should be followed as far as practicable.

5. Proof reading
Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika will send the proof to correspondence author by email. Author should do proof reading carefully and send the corrected proof to Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika in three working days.

6. Manuscript submission
Manuscript should be submitted electronically via E-mail. Please send the manuscript to agromaritim_policy@apps.ipb.ac.id. State “Manuscript submission, Author name” in the subject.

7. Publication Charges
Author(s) are free of charged for each article accepted for publication in Policy Brief Pertanian, Kelautan, dan Biosains Tropika.

8. Author List
During manuscript submission, the submitting author must provide contact information (full name, email address, institutional affiliation and mailing address) for all of the co-authors. The author who submits the manuscript for publication accepts the responsibility of notifying all co-authors that the manuscript is being submitted. Deletion of an author after the manuscript has been submitted requires a confirming letter to the Editor-in-Chief from the author whose name is being deleted.

Upon submission, Editor in Chief will assign the manuscript to a corresponding Editor for further handling. The Editor will request at least two scientists to review the manuscript. Based on the comments from the reviewers, Editor, and Editor-in-Chief will make the decision on the manuscript.

Authors should review the preparation of the manuscripts prior to submission of a manuscript. Close attention to all the required details in preparation of the manuscripts will expedite review and reduce the time to publication.

9. Journal Publishing Agreement
A properly completed and signed Journal Publishing Agreement must be submitted for each manuscript. Authors must signed the agreement stating that the submitted article have never been published on another Journal.
