Abstract

This study aims to analyze the production factors influencing the catch of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) and to determine the optimal level of fishing effort at the Cilacap Oceanic Fishing Port (PPS Cilacap). The research employs a survey approach utilizing a quantitative descriptive method for data analysis. Primary data were obtained directly through interviews with 65 purse seine fishermen, complemented by secondary data on production volume for the 2020–2024 period. To analyze the data, the analytical instruments used include the Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) calculation and the Cobb-Douglas production function model. The results indicate that the CPUE value increased over the study period, averaging 6,771.24 tons/trip, which reflects an increase in fishing efficiency. Simultaneously, production factors significantly affect the catch, with dominant variables including the number of trips, vessel size, and engine power. Improving efficiency in the capture fisheries business and protecting the sustainability of skipjack tuna stocks heavily depend on the extent to which the optimization of production factors and minimization of waste are executed.
