Kajian sifat fisiko-kimia edible film kombinasi kitosan-CMC dengan konsentrasi plasticizer dan jenis pelarut yang berbeda Study of the physico-chemical properties of edible chitosan-CMC combinations film with different plasticizer concentrations and solvent types
Abstract
The increase in conventional plastic waste that is difficult to decompose has encouraged the development of environmentally friendly packaging materials based on biopolymers. Chitosan and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) are two biopolymers that can be combined to form composite films with improved mechanical and barrier properties. However, the characteristics of these films are strongly influenced by the type of solvent and the concentration of plasticizer used during film formation. This study analyzed the effects of solvent type (acetic, citric, and lactic acids) and glycerol plasticizer concentration (40%, 50%, and 60%) on the physicochemical properties of chitosan-CMC edible composite films. Films were prepared by the casting method using 1.5% (w/v) chitosan and CMC solutions, followed by glycerol addition according to the treatments. Parameters observed included tensile strength, elongation, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), pH, thickness, and solubility. The experiment used a two-factor factorial completely randomized design with three replications, and data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by HSD. The results showed that solvent type and plasticizer concentration significantly affected tensile strength, elongation, WVTR, pH, and solubility (p<0.05), but not thickness. Tensile strength ranged from 0.66 to 1.67 MPa, while elongation ranged from 78.78 to 166.21%. WVTR values ranged from 22.78 to 38.41 g/m²·day. Increasing plasticizer concentration decreased tensile strength but increased elongation, solubility, and WVTR.
