Abstract

This research, titled "The Decline of Communication Ethics on Social Media," examines the comments on Jerome Polin's Twitter account. Communication ethics serves as a standard for human behavior and actions in communication within societal structures. Among various forms of communication ethics, social media communication ethics often tend to be overlooked due to the rapid advancement of technology. Therefore, this study aims to understand the interactions on the widely used social media platform Twitter. The research analyzes the Twitter account of Jerome Polin, an influencer whose posts attract attention from users. It is not uncommon for Jerome Polin to receive negative comments from netizens, resulting in the collapse of communication ethics on social media. The research methodology employed is discourse analysis, which delves deeper into the content of information on the media platform, specifically Twitter. This study considers the case of hate speech and insults directed towards Jerome Polin on Twitter as a manifestation of the decline of communication ethics on social media.
