Abstract

The increasing public awareness of health causes the demand for beetroot in Indonesia to be quite high. This is evidenced by the import of beetroot from Australia. This import activity shows that the availability of beetroot is still not able to consumer needs. One of the reason is the limited cultivation of beets in the highlands. In this regard, the strategy that can be taken to increase the availability of beetroot is through the development of planting in the medium land. The purpose of this research is to obtain information about levels of water requirements and varieties of beetroot that are suitable in medium land. The study was conducted from July-October 2019 in a greenhouse, used a randomized block design consisting of 10 treatment combinations by placing a combination of beetroot varieties (Vikima and Ayumi 04) and the volume of water supply (350, 550, 750, 950 and 1150) mm water season-1 as a treatment and repeated 3 times. The results showed that the highest leaf area, total dry weight and tuber fresh weight were obtained in the P10. The more concentrated tuber color and higher content of proline and betacyanin were obtained in the P1 and P6.
