Abstract

Adolescence is categorized as a vulnerable period for nutritional problems, both undernutrition and overnutrition. Factors that influence nutritional status vulnerability in adolescents are increased nutritional needs, special nutritional needs, and changes in adolescent lifestyle and eating behavior. One type of inappropriate eating behavior is emotional eating. Based on previous research, emotional eating is more common in women than men. This research aimed to determine the relationship between emotional eating and the nutritional status of female adolescents at SMAN 26 Jakarta. This study used a cross-sectional design with a population of female students at SMAN 26 Jakarta. The sample for this research was 94 subjects using the purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests, including the chi-square test. The data obtained shows that 70.2% and 66% of subjects had normal nutritional status based on IMT/U and abdominal circumference and 58.5% of subjects experienced moderate emotional eating. The results of this study showed that there was no relationship between emotional eating and nutritional status based on IMT/U or abdominal circumference (p 0.667 and 0.498).
