Abstrak

Cacatua sulphurea abbotti is a subspecies of the yellow-crested cockatoos (Cacatua sulphurea) now only found on the island of Masakambing, Masalembu Archipelago. The population has been declining and at risk of extinction. The aim of this study is to analyze the current population of the abbotti yellow-crested cockatoos (number, sex ratio, age structure, and population development) and its habitat (food, shelter, cover, and nest site). The study was conducted in May and July 2015 using the concentration count method for population inventory. A single sample with four sample plots was used for the habitat analysis. Interviews were conducted to obtain additional data about the habitat management. The research finds that the number of the abbotti yellow-crested cockatoo was 19 birds. The sex ratio of the abbotti population was 1:1 (the monogamous system), and in terms of age structure the population was dominated by adult birds. The abbotti yellow-crested cockatoos population growth  were approximately one individuals every year. The abbotti population had a good sex ratio, age structure, and population development. The important trees as their habitat are Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) as the feeding and nesting site and coconut palms (Cocos nucifera) as the feeding, resting, and roosting area.
