Bird Species Diversity Based on Habitat Type Gradients in The Gold Mining Area of PT Natarang, Tanggamus, Lampung Province

Abstrak

Birds are one of the components of the environment that have an important function in maintaining environmental stability. The inventory of the richness and diversity of bird species was carried out by the transect method combined with the Index Point of Abundance method. Six transects along 200-300 meters in each transect are placed in the hilly lowland forest, the hilly lowland secondary forest, the coffee plantation and the open area of grass bushes in the PT Natarang Mining area. At every distance of 50 meters in each transect, all birds seen and heard were recorded in their individual and type in a 20-minute period. There are a total of 50 types of birds recorded in the PT Natarang gold mining area. The value of the bird species diversity index ranged from 1.81-2.81, the highest in gradient habitat types of the lowland hilly forest and the lowest in the open area of gradient habitat type. The structure of the bird community in PT Natarang's concession area is dominated by insect-eating birds (48.00%), while fruit-eating birds (22.00%). The number of protected bird species found in the PT Natarang gold mine concession area is 10 species such as the Crested serpent  Eagle (Spilornis cheela), Changeable Haw Eagle (Spizaetus cirrhatus), Black thighet Falconet (Microhierax fringillarius), Black Hornbill (Anthracoceros malayanus), rhinoceros hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), Pied Fantail (Rhipidura javanica) Olive backed Sunbird (Nectarinia jugularis), Brown throated Sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis), Crimson Sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja), and Little Spider Hunter (Arachnothera longirostris).
