Abstract

Wood volume information is important for forest inventory and wood utilization planning in peatland plantation forests. During harvesting, standing trees become felled trees, requiring different volume measurement approaches. This study aimed to analyze the volume characteristics of standing and felled Acacia crassicarpa trees in peatlands and to develop volume estimation models based on tree and stem dimensions. The study used 40 standing trees and 40 felled trees. Standing tree volume was estimated using diameter at breast height, tree height, and a form factor of 0.7, while felled tree volume was calculated using the Brereton formula based on butt diameter, top diameter, and stem length. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Welch’s test, and multiple linear regression. The results showed that the average volume of standing trees was 0.124 ± 0.044 m³ tree⁻¹, significantly higher than felled trees at 0.089 ± 0.019 m³ stem⁻¹ (p < 0.001). The volume estimation models showed strong relationships between wood volume and tree or stem dimensions, with coefficients of determination of 0.969 for standing trees and 0.997 for felled trees. These findings support wood resource evaluation in peatland plantation forests.
