Abstract

Gig workers are growing rapidly, especially in the creative industries involving freelancers in graphic design, photography, and videography. Despite offering flexibility, freelancers face challenges such as income instability and fierce competition. This study analyzes the influence of competence, career commitment, negotiation skills, and discipline on career success, with passion as the mediating variable. A survey approach was used with the PLS-SEM method on 266 freelancers in Jabodetabek. The results showed that competence and negotiation skills have a positive effect on career success, while discipline has no significant effect. Career commitment has a negative impact, indicating that too strong attachment can hinder freelancers' flexibility. In addition, passion does not act as a mediator, but has a direct influence on career success. These findings confirm that freelancers' success is more determined by negotiation skills and strategies, rather than passion or discipline. Freelancers are advised to continuously improve their skills and build professional networks in order to survive in a competitive industry.
