Abstract

Oyster mushroom baglog waste is the leftover growth medium used in mushroom cultivation, which still contains high levels of nutrients such as organic carbon (49%), nitrogen (0.6%), phosphorus (0.7%), and potassium (0.02%). This waste has great potential to be utilized as a raw material for organic fertilizer to improve soil fertility and crop yield. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of oyster mushroom baglog compost as an organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). The study employed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments and five replications. The treatments included: P1 (100% fertile soil), P2 (50% fertile soil + 50% baglog compost), P3 (35% fertile soil + 65% baglog compost), P4 (20% fertile soil + 80% baglog compost), and P5 (5% fertile soil + 95% baglog compost). The research was conducted at the Agro Learning Center in Denpasar from April to October 2024. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaf, number of flowers, and number of fruits. The results showed that P1 treatment (100% fertile soil) provided the best plant growth in the initial phase at 3 WAP and 10 WAP. Whereas, P4 treatment (20% fertile soil + 80% baglog compost) produced the highest number of flowers and fruits compared to other treatments. These findings indicate that oyster mushroom baglog compost has strong potential as an environmentally friendly organic fertilizer and can help reduce farmers’ dependence on synthetic fertilizers.
