Relationship between Knowledge and Service Period on Nurse Behavior in Disposing of Medical Solid Waste at the Container Stage at PT X Clinic, Tangerang Regency in 2023

Abstract

Based on data from the PT X Clinic, there are work accidents caused by waste of sharp objects or used syringes. This does not escape the behavior of nurses in disposing of medical solid waste at the container stage. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors related to the behavior of nurses in disposing of medical solid waste at the container stage at the PT X Clinic, Tangerang Regency in 2023. This study used a Cross Sectional design with a sample of 78 people. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi square test. This research was conducted in July 2023. The results of the univariate analysis showed that there were more nurses with poor behavior, namely 42 people (53.8%), poor knowledge, namely 41 people (52.5%), bad attitudes, namely 46 people (59%) and long service tenure of nurses, namely 45 people (57.7%). There is a relationship between knowledge and behavior of nurses (p-value 0.046 <0.05), attitude and behavior of p-value (0.026 <0.05), and years of service with behavior p-value (0.030 <0.05). To prevent a better personality from forming, management takes the form of updating the system, such as giving a strict warning if a nurse disposes of medical waste that does not match its type and providing training to nurses on a regular basis with trainers who are competent in their field.
