The Influence of Television Access and Impersonating Violent Contents to Bullying Behavior on Elementary School Children

Television programs containing violence is now free to be accessed by school age children, particularly children in elementary school. The violent content has negative impact on children, such as bullying behavior to their friends as well as their parents. This research aimed to analyze the influence of television access on bullying behavior among school age children at Bogor villages. This research involved 60 children with age ranges between 10-13 years old in grade 4 and 5. A proportional random sampling in Pamijahan Sub-District, Bogor District was undertaken in this research. Result showed that the intensity of watching television, preferences in watching television, preferences to access violent contents, and impersonation of violent contents significantly correlated to bullying behavior. Multiple linier regression analysis showed that television access and impersonating violent contents had significantly positive effects on bullying behavior on children. Keywords: bullying behavior, elementary school children, impersonating violent contents, rural area, television access Tayangan televisi yang banyak mengandung kekerasan dapat secara bebas diakses oleh anak usia sekolah. Akibatnya, anak dapat berulang-ulang terpapar muatan kekerasan tersebut dan berpotensi meniru adegan kekerasan tersebut dan melakukan perilaku bullying terhadap teman-teman bahkan orangtuanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh akses media televisi terhadap perilaku bullying anak usia sekolah di Perdesaan Bogor. Penelitian ini melibatkan 60 anak usia sekolah berusia 10-13 tahun yang duduk di kelas 4 dan 5 SD yang dipilih secara proportional random sampling. Penelitian ini berlokasi di Kecamatan Pamijahan, Kabupaten Bogor. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lama menonton televisi, preferensi menonton televisi, preferensi mengakses muatan kekerasan, dan peniruan muatan kekerasan berhubungan positif signifikan dengan perilaku bullying. Uji regresi linier berganda menunjukkan bahwa akses media televisi dan peniruan muatan kekerasan berpengaruh positif signifikan terhadap perilaku bullying anak usia sekolah.Kata kunci: akses media televisi, peniruan muatan kekerasan, perdesaan, perilaku bullying, siswa sekolah dasar

An Integration of Family and School on Strengthening the Character of Teenager in Indonesia: It’s a Must

Juvenile delinquencies that have increased in the last few years among teenagers in Indonesia need some integrative efforts to overcome. This study analysed influence of parenting styles, methods of socialization, and school environment on character strengths among teenagers. This study also examined what family and school can do to improve their character strengths. This study involved 400 students conducted in 10 senior high schools in rural and urban area in Bogor, West Java Province, Indonesia. The result of this study revealed that some factors in the family (low level of permissive parenting style, high level of authoritative parenting style, higher variations of methods of socialization) and school environment (low of punishment and low violent behavior received in school, higher preference for learning process and condition at school) had significant and positive influence to increase quality of character. Hence, integration of partnership between family and school to strengthen teenagers’ character is discussed further in this study. Keywords: character strengths, methods of socialization, parenting style, school environment Kenakalan remaja yang telah meningkat dalam beberapa tahun terakhqir di kalangan remaja di Indonesia memerlukan upaya integratif. Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh gaya pengasuhan, metode sosialisasi, dan lingkungan sekolah pada kekuatan karakter di kalangan remaja. Penelitian ini juga meneliti hal yang dapat dilakukan keluarga dan sekolah untuk meningkatkan kekuatan karakter remaja. Penelitian ini melibatkan 400 siswa yang dilakukan di 10 SMA di daerah pedesaan dan perkotaan di Bogor, Provinsi Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa beberapa faktor dalam keluarga (gaya pengasuhan permisif tingkat rendah, gaya pengasuhan otoritatif tingkat tinggi, metode sosialisasi dengan variasi yang tinggi) dan lingkungan sekolah (tingkat hukuman yang rendah dan perilaku kekerasan yang rendah diterima di sekolah, preferensi yang lebih tinggi untuk proses belajar dan kondisi di sekolah) memiliki pengaruh yang positif signifikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas karakter. Oleh karena itu, integrasi kemitraan antara keluarga dan sekolah untuk memperkuat karakter remaja dibahas lebih lanjut dalam penelitian ini.Kata kunci: gaya pengasuhan, kekuatan karakter, lingkungan sekolah, metode sosialisasi

This study employed cross sectional approach using survey and interview. A hundred of families with children at grades 4 and 5 in two public elementary schools at Pamijahan Sub District, Bogor Regency participated in this study. This found only age and peer attachment that had significant influence on character strengths of school-aged children in rural families.

The Influence of Social Media Use and Parenting Style on Teenagers’ Academic Motivation and Academic Achievement

This study aimed to analyze the effects of social media use and parenting styles on teenagers’ academic motivation and academic achievement. The population was grade 11 students of four schools; two schools in Bogor Regency (representative of rural area) and Bogor City (representative of urban area). Samples were 120 students taken by using proportional random sampling. The results showed that the social media use in urban area was higher than that in rural area. Most parents in both regions implemented authoritative parenting style. Intrinsic academic motivation was influenced by authoritative and permissive parenting styles, and duration of social media use. Extrinsic academic motivation was influenced by authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles, and duration of social media use. Teenagers in urban area had better academic achievement than those in rural area, as well as teenage girls compared to teenage boys. Meanwhile, authoritarian parenting style was proved to lower teenagers’ academic achievement.Keywords: academic achievement, academic motivation, parenting style, social media Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan media sosial dan gaya pengasuhan orang tua terhadap motivasi belajar dan prestasi belajar remaja. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI di empat sekolah; masing-masing dua sekolah di Kabupaten Bogor (mewakili wilayah perdesaan) dan Kota Bogor (mewakili wilayah perkotaan). Contoh diambil menggunakan metode proportional random sampling sebanyak 120 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penggunaan media sosial remaja di kota lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan remaja di kabupaten. Sebagian besar orangtua remaja di kedua wilayah menerapkan gaya pengasuhan otoritatif. Motivasi instrinsik dipengaruhi oleh gaya pengasuhan otoritatif dan permisif, serta durasi penggunaan media sosial. Motivasi ekstrinsik dipengaruhi oleh gaya pengasuhan otoritatif dan otoritarian, serta durasi penggunaan media sosial. Remaja di perkotaan mencapai prestasi akademik yang lebih baik dibandingkan remaja di perdesaan, begitu pula dengan remaja perempuan dibandingkan remaja laki-laki. Sementara itu, gaya pengasuhan otoritarian terbukti menurunkan prestasi akademik remaja.Kata kunci: gaya pengasuhan, media sosial, motivasi belajar, prestasi belajar, remaja

The Influence of School Environment, Social Intelligence, and Self-Esteem toward Academic Achievement of Student in Rural Area

Academic achievement of students is affected by several factors. This study aimed to analyze the effect of adolescent and family characteristics, school environment, social intelligence, and self-esteem toward academic achievement of rural adolescents. This study used the cross-sectional study design. The purposive method was used in selecting the research location. Data were collected from two senior high school students in Bogor District (n=150) chosen by proportional random sampling. The result showed that gender and school environment had significantly positive effect on academic achievement. Conversely, family income had negative effect on academic achievement of rural adolescents.Keywords: academic achievement, adolescent, self-esteem, school environment, social intelligence, rural area Pencapaian remaja untuk meraih prestasi akademik merupakan hasil dari interaksi antara berbagai faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh karakeristik remaja, karakteristik keluarga, lingkungan sekolah, kecerdasan sosial, dan self-esteem terhadap prestasi akademik remaja di wilayah perdesaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross-sectional study. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 150 siswa SMA di wilayah Kabupaten Bogor, Jawa Barat. Pemilihan lokasi penelitian ini dilakukan secara purposif dan penarikan contoh dilakukan dengan teknik proportional random sampling. Hasil uji regresi menunjukkan bahwa kecerdasan sosial dan self-esteem tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap prestasi akademik. Jenis kelamin dan lingkungan sekolah ditemukan memiliki pengaruh positif signifikan terhadap prestasi akademik. Sebaliknya, pendapatan per kapita keluarga mempunyai pengaruh negatif signifikan terhadap prestasi akademik remaja perdesaan.Kata kunci: kecerdasan sosial, lingkungan sekolah, perdesaan, prestasi akademik, remaja, self-esteem

This research aimed to analyze parental environment quality, attachment between mother and children, cognitive development, and correlation among those variables. This research took place at Tanah Sareal and Bogor Barat, Bogor City and involved 39 children at preschool age with their mom chosen by purposive method. Data were collected by interview using structure questionnaire and observation. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and correlation. More than 50 percent children have the medium score of the parental environment quality, attachment at average category, and cognitive development. Mothers education were correlated significantly positive with parental environment quality, learning, and attachment.

The aim of this research was to analyze the value of children, academic socialization, and motivation to continue junior high school education of the school-aged children in rural areas. This research used cross sectional design. The location of the research was determined purposively with the criteria of farming households with a big size of paddy land. The examples of this study were 100 children from complete families whose school-age children were selected by random proportional method. The participants of this research were 100 children from intact families who had children of elementary school selected and choosen by propotional random sampling. Result showed that the value of children was in moderate category for each dimension. There was a significantly positive correlation of dimension academic socialization in discussing between learning strategies and the value of psychological. Meanhile, parent’s academic socialization was in the low category. This means that parents are still lacking in transforming the importance of education to children. The result showed a significant and positive correlation between parent’s academic socialization and child’s motivation to continue education. Parent’s academic socialization also significantly influenced child’s intrinsic motivation to continue education.

This study aims to analyze the effect of parental environment quality and participation in early childhood education on children's character. A sample in this study was randomly selected (random sampling) involving 100 respondents. Data were collected through interviews and observation techniques with the help of questionnaires. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, independent t-test, and regression test. The results showed that parental environment quality in which their children did not attend early childhood education was better than that whose children attended early childhood education. The results showed that there was a significant effect of parental environment quality on children’s character, and there was no significant effect of participation in early childhood education on children's character.

The Influence of Communication and Attachment with Peers on Adolescence Character in Rural Area

Adolescence is a unique phase because at this stage the person becomes more independent, and togetherness intensity with peers increases at this stage. However, adolescent relationships with peers can affect positively or negatively on adolescent characters. This study aimed to analyze the effect of adolescent-peers communication and attachment on adolescent characters. The study was conducted in Pamijahan, Bogor Regency, involving 109 students of Vocational High School (SMK). Data were collected by using a modified instrument of the Parent-Adolescent Communication Scale, Adolescent Attachment Questionnaire and VIA-Youth. Data were processed by using descriptive analysis and regression analysis. The results indicated high communication problem between adolescents and their peers. In addition, that was low openness among adolescents and their peers. The attachment between adolescents and their peers were also found low. The scores of rural adolescents character in this study were relatively low. It was allegedly associated with a low score of communication and attachment with peers. Results of regression analysis showed that only the attachment with peers has a significant effect on the scores of adolescent characters in rural.

Violence perpetrated by adolescents is very related with youth psychological conditions, one of which is intelligence aspect. Intelligence is an individual potency to be able to resolve problems logically, directed, and using ways that can be accepted by the environment. Through this study, we want to get the profile of the intelligence of juvenile perpetrators of violence who are now in correctional institution. The benefit of this study is to give an informations for parents and teachers to provide an appropriate parenting and education. This is a qualitatively study from four adolescent participants who commited violent crimes, aged 15-18 years, and they are residents of correctional institution for male children in Tangerang. Participants Intelligence was evaluated using Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) or Wechsler Belleveu (WB), and followed with interview of all participants. The study was conducted in February 2013 to May 2013. The Results show the full IQ scores of participants were in the category of Borderline Intellectual Functioning, with performance skills grew significantly than verbal skills. The Additional data about the participants was the participants were grew up in the families, which the parenting style of the parents or signficant persons accompanied by violence.

Emotional socialization is important factor to shape emotional intelligence for children. Children who have high emotional intelligence will prevent to behave aggressively. Basic emotions in children such as anger, sadness, and fear is still regarded as inappropriate emotions expressed. The aimed of this research was to analyze the effect of emotional socialization of three basic emotions and emotional intelligence on aggressive behavior of school-age children in the rural family. This research was conducted at Ciasmara and Ciasihan Village, Pamijahan Sub District, Bogor Regency. Design of this research was cross sectional. The samples of this research were intact family who had school-aged children. Hundreds students were selected by proportional random sampling in the two selected school. Result showed that there were significant positive correlation between emotional socialization and emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence was significant negatively correlated with aggressive behavior. Other result found that mother’s age, acceptance dimension of emotional socialization, awareness and self-regulation of emotional intelligence had significant influences on aggressive behavior among school-age children of rural family

Effect of Mother’s Discipline Parenting Pattern on Discipline Character of Kindergarten Children

This research aimed to analyze the effect of maternal discipline on discipline of children at two kindergarten in Bogor City. The research design used was a cross sectional study involving 46 mothers and children, selected by accidental sampling, and the data were collected using a questionnaire. Parenting discipline was measured using a questionnaire of The Dimensions of Discipline Inventory (DDI), which was adapted and modified from Straus and Fauchier (2011) with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.864, and Character Development Questionnaire Preschooler adapted and modified from Hastuti (2014) with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0649. The results showed that there was a significantly positive correlation between the lenght of education and mother’s implementation of discipline, and there is a significantly positive correlation between marital status with cognitive appraisal of discipline. Cognitive appraisal of discipline is an opinion or judgment against parent parenting discipline either approved or not. Discipline of children was influenced by mother’s length of education, mother’s age, and situation in the application of discipline by mother (R2 Adjusted= 0.492). The situation in the application of discipline is a state or condition of the mother when applying disciplinary behavior to children.

Family Interaction and Emotional Intelligence of School-Age Children in Urban Poor Areas

Emotional intelligence is the ability of children to express their emotions appropriately. Emotions play an important role in children’s lives because through the emotion someone knows what was perceived themselves and others. The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of the characteristics of children and family, interaction between children and parents as well as siblings toward school-age children’s emotional intelligence. The study design was cross-sectional study with proportional random sampling method. Samples in this study were children and mothers (n=100) in urban poor areas, which are located in Empang Village and Tegal Lega Village, Bogor City. Data were collected by interview using a questionnaire. The results showed that there is a negative significant relation between age of mother and parent-child interaction. Mother’s education length and sibling interaction have a positive significant relation with emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence of school-age children in urban poor areas was affected by mother’s education length and sibling interaction. Age of child does not influence on child emotional intelligence in urban poor areas.

Parenting and Child Quality on Poor and Nonpoor Families in Cimanuk Watershed

The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of family characteristics, child characteristics, and parenting quality of poor and nonpoor families toward their quality of children. The design of this research was cross-sectional study conducted at Cimanuk Watershed Area in Indramayu and Garut Sub-District, involving a total of 200 families with 2-5 years old children. The sample consist of 64 poor families and 136 nonpoor families. The analysis results indicate that the length of mother education, the age of children, and parenting quality have significant and positive influence on the quality of children. There is no difference in the quality of children between poor and nonpoor families, eventhough there are significant differences on family size, age of father, length of parental education, family income, and parenting quality done by the parents between poor and nonpoor families.

The Influence of Mother’s Personality and Social Support on Emotional Socialization of Working Mother in Rural Family

The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of mother’s personality and social support on emotional socialization of working mother in rural family. This research was conducted at Ciampea Sub District, Bogor Regency. Design of this research was cross sectional study. The population of this research were working mothers from rural family who had teenager from four chosen junior high schools. The samples consist of 80 working mothers that were chosen by purposive sampling. Result showed that the higher scorees of extraversion and openness of mother’s personality, the higher emotional socialization that was conducted by mother to her teenager. Moreover, openness of mother’s personality consistenly influence on emotional socialization. This result showed that there is a mother’s personality roles toward emotional socialization that conducted by mother to her teenager. This research was not found correlation between social support and emotional socialization.

Analysis of Mother's Personality , Mother's Parenting Style, and Adolescent 's Autonomy in Rural Families

This study design was cross-sectional study. Examples in this study were teenagers and mothers of three selected junior in Ciampea Sub-district. The number of samples in this study were 100 adolescents and mothers who were selected through cluster random sampling. The results showed the tendency of personality type mostwidely owned mom is conscientiousness that a personality type that thorough, orderly, industrious, diligent, efficient, planners, and think before acting. Positive parenting style dimensions (warmth, regularity, and support independence) has a higher achievement than the dimensions negati f (denial, irregularity, and coercion).Results of the study found no association and the influence of mothers on the independence of adolescent personality. However, the regression test found the influence of mother's personality on mother's nurturing style and only the large family to the independence of rural adolescents.

The Influence of Parental Acceptance Rejection and Mother Child Attachment to Discipline among Preschool Age Children

This study aimed to analyze influence of parental acceptance rejection, mother child’s attachment to discipline among preschool age children. The sample criteria of this study are mother as primary caregiver and has child who study in PAUD Mawar and Nurul Fajria, Ciasmara Village, Pamijahan district, Bogor Regency. This study involved 36 families with preschool children, which are chosen purposively. The data were analyzed using chi-square test, Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. Parental acceptance and discipline classified to low category, the average of mother child’s attachment is classified good. There was a significant positive correlation between mother child attachment with parental acceptance and discipline of children. The result of multiple linear regression showed that there is negative influence between length of mother’s education to child’s discipline, meanwhile there is significant positive influence between income percapita and mother child’s attachment to discipline children.

The previous study showed that the quality of father-child relationship could predict the quality of family relationship. Father involvement were positively affecting child development. This study aimed to identify father roles on children in Islamic perspective. The study was conducted in Islamic Senior High School in West Jakarta. Five hundreds student from class IX were used in this study, and selected by using cluster random sampling method. Data were collected using in-depth interview and self-report with questionnaire as the tools. Father roles consist of six dimensions: (1) leader, (2) economic provider, (3) protector, (4) educator, (5) playmates, and (6) friend. This study found that father’s role as a leader, economic provider, and protector were the roles that most felt by children. Meanwhile, father’s role as an educator, playmates, and friend were the roles that less felt by children. This research aimed to analyze the influence of maternal sensitivity on mother-child attachment, and mother-child attachment on cognitive development. This research was conducted at Kelurahan Empang and Tegallega, Kota Bogor. The samples consist of 100 mothers and their child that were selected by proportional random sampling. The results showed that mother’s education length and maternal sensitivity has positive significant correlation with mother-child attachment. In addition, mother’s education length and income per capita has positive significant correlation with cognitive development. However, family size has negative significant correlation with mother-child attachment and also cognitive development. Child cognitive development was influenced by participation in early childhood education and mother’s education length. This research found that child cognitive development was not influenced by mother-child attachment.

Parent-adolescent communication will affect both positive and negative behaviors in adolescents. This study aims to analyze the influence of the characteristics of adolescents and families with parent-adolescent communication, self-esteem, the use of internet, pornography and porn-action.The respondents of the study were teenagers in the age groups of 14-17 years, consisted of 137 respondents in Bogor, selected by using random sampling technique.Parent-adolescent communication consists of daily communication and preventife discussion of pornography and porn-action.Furthermore, adolescent' self-esteem includes both positive and negative perceptions of self among adolescents. The use of the media is focused on the frequency of Internet use for pornography and porn-action behavior including viewing and disseminating porn contents. Data were analyzed with independent sample t-test, and multiple linear regression test. The results showed that female are more open to communicate with parents than male. Male pornography and pornoaction behavior are higher than female. Regression results indicate that preventative discussion of pornography and porn-action of parent-adolescents and internet usage affect the behavior of pornography and porn-action.

This research aimed to analyze the relationship and influence of children and family characteristic, interaction of peer group, moral development toward agression behavior of school age chidren in Tegal Lega Village, Middle District of Bogor and Empang Village, South District of Bogor. Design of this research was cross sectional study. Population of this reserch were family with school-age late childhood or 4-6 class elementery school. The samples consist 100 children and mothers were chosen by proportional random sampling. The data collected by interview based on questionnaire. Result showed that were significant and negative correlation between moral development with aggression behavior. Meanwhile, result showed that were significant and negative influence between moral development toward aggression behavior. This research was not found influence between child characteristic and peer group interaction toward aggression behavior.

The purpose of this research is to know the relation between gratitude and social support with the stress of parents who have children in need special. Through random sampling techniques, acquired the subject 30 parents who have children in need specially in Surabaya. This research is the gauge scale gratitude scale, stress and social support scale. Research data were analyzed with regression shows double F = 4.750 and sig = 0.01 means there is a significant relationship between social support and gratitude with the stress of parents who have children in need special. The results of the R square = 0.260 meaning stress parents who have children in need special can be explained by the gratitude and social support of 26%. Next partially gratitude does not correlate with the stress parents of children in need special (partial r = 0.001 with sig = 0.998), and social support proved to be significantly correlated negatively with the stress parents of children in need of special r partial =-0.480 with sig = 0.008

The Effect of Parenting Style, Self-Efficacy, and Self Regulated Learning on Adolescents’ Academic Achievement

Academic achievement as one of learning outcome indicator in adolescents influenced by the self and family environment factors. This study was aimed to analyze the effect of child characteristics, family characteristics, parenting style perceived by adolescents, self-efficacy and self regulated learning on adolescents academic achievement. The study used self report method which involved 91 eighth grade students from two junior high schools in Bogor. Data analysis included descriptive analysis and inference analysis (correlation test and linier regression test). Result showed that majority of samples perceived their parent as authoritative (86.8%) followed by authoritarian (11.0%) and permissive (2.2%). The result also showed that majority of samples had medium level in self-efficacy and self regulated learning. More than a half of samples had under average level in academic achievement. Correlation results showed that there were significant and positive relationship between authoritarian parenting style with birth order, family size as well as gender. Self regulated learning were significantly and positively related with authoritative parenting style (r=0.257, p-value<0.05) and self-efficacy (r=0.330, p-value<0.01). Meanwhile, regression results showed a positive effect of academic achievement on father's education (β=0.315, p-value=0.006) and authoritative parenting styles (β=0.259, p-value=0.014), as well as negatively on gender (β=-0.267, p-value=0.014) and permissive parenting style (β=-0.203, p-value=0.039).

Abstract. The purpose of research is to identify the pornography behavior ofJunior High School student. We used cross-sectional study as research design. Locations were taken by purposive in South Tangerang city conducted in four junior high school. Schools were selected purposively based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Education in South Tangerang. Participants used are 600 children, boys 278 and girls 322 children. Data were collected by questionnaires filled out by participants.The pornography behavior of junior high school student that have been studied are viewing pornographic web, reading books or comics that contain pornographic pictures, hearing or saying things porn, think of things related to pornography. This study also want to know the things that encourage the child to thepornographic behavior and the diference pornography behavior between boys and girls.The results showed that the behavior of pornography on boys is higher than girls. The pornography behavior on boys and girls there are no statistically significant differences (p value = 0:03 *, p <0.05).Key words :pornography behavior, junior high school student, internet influence
